About Vanessa

There are your average home staging companies, and then there’s Asheville Home Staging—led by me, Vanessa Byrd!

I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in interior design and worked at a high-end interiors firm for more than six years. That means I see a home from a trained designer’s perspective, and can emphasize its best features, and hide its flaws, in ways other home stagers simply may not be able to. After a successful design career—and many historic home renovations (historic homes are my passion!)—I entered the world of real estate. I have been a Top 100 Agent in Asheville for the last five years in a row, thanks in no small part to my staging skills and the power of home staging. And that means I know this market inside and out. I know what Western North Carolina home buyers want to see, and I can help your home deliver a performance that will earn their fanfare.

The eye of an interior designer + insight of a real estate agent = one powerhouse professional home stager.

I’m thrilled to work alongside a fantastic team that includes my family. My husband, John, and two wonderful boys, Joe and Benny, pitch in whenever possible, which only makes me love what I do even more. Together, we stage an average of 45 homes a year! As a designer, I greatly enjoy the creative outlet that home staging provides. And as a real estate broker, I revel in helping a listing—whether it’s mine or a fellow agent’s—sell, and sell quickly at the highest price possible. I have a vested interest in real estate in this community, and I want to see everyone happy, no matter their side of the deal: agents, owner-sellers, builders, and buyers alike.

By Design: My Approach to Home Staging

A devotee of eclectic design, I’m not a fan of cookie-cutter spaces. I’ve seen so many staged homes that all look the same: in a word, uninspired. A house that’s staged to sell should look inviting and interesting. The designs need to come across as aspirational—rooms a buyer dreams of owning—but also authentic and attainable—spaces they can imagine themselves comfortably in. And you can’t evoke these feelings by pulling a matching bed set out of a bag or bringing in a whole coordinated display room from the home furnishings store. I’ve spent countless hours at small boutiques and quality retailers gathering exceptional pieces that are intriguing to the eye and timeless yet on-trend: furniture, artwork, and accessories that will help your home stand out as the star it is, and not just be another actor on the market.

Most importantly, I’m a versatile designer. My unique style works well with all types of homes, from 1920s bungalows to contemporary ranchers. I design rooms that reflect the personality of the property they’re in, so that it appeals to all different kinds of buyers, no matter their taste. Because that’s how to sell a house fast for top dollar.
